JORHAT, Sept 22: An incident involving renowned ophthalmologist Dr Narayan Bordoloi of allegedly obstructing an ambulance with an injured child here early on Sunday morning created a sensation.
According to a source the doctor stopped the ambulance going through the Stadium Road citing that the road was officially designated as a Walking Zone from 5 am to 7 am and all vehicles prohibited from plying on it.

The doctor, is the president of a committee of the said Walking Zone formed about six years back in 2018.
A video of the incident which went viral showed the doctor obstructing the path of the ambulance and arguing with the staff of the ambulance which included a government doctor on duty.
The video showed that after a heated exchange and alleged pushing of the doctor out of the way, Dr Bordoloi took out a small knife and attacked the staff of the ambulance and others before being overpowered and the knife handed over to a traffic policeman. Later police came and took him to the police station.
Later an understanding was reached and the doctor was let off.
The girl who was injured was participating in a half marathon organised by the district administration as part of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and had fallen down at Nirmal Chariali here and injured her knee.
Local people have expressed anguish about how an ambulance could be stopped. Ambulance like fire tenders are always given right of way. People have called for immediate withdrawal of Waking Zone from the road which connects AT Road from East, West and North Jorhat.
Apart from the Jorhat Stadium, the JB College, Jorhat Authonomous, Court Field, DC’s residence and judicial officer s’ quarters, Jorhat District Sports Association office and Mahatma Gandhi Children’s Park falls on that road.Â
