Pobitora WLS reopens for 2024-25; state Ministers welcome tourists

GUWAHATI, Oct 14: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, renowned for its dense population of the one-horned rhinoceros and diverse wildlife, has officially reopened for the 2024-25 season, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika announced on Monday.

In a ceremony marking the reopening, Hazarika extended a warm welcome to tourists, emphasizing the sanctuary’s rich biodiversity.

“Home to various types of flora and fauna, including the one-horned rhino, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary attracts a large number of tourists every year. For the year 2024-25, it was reopened today,” he shared in a post on the micro-blogging site X.

The event was also graced by Assam Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, who accompanied Hazarika in the reopening programme.

Both the Ministers expressed their commitment to ensure the preservation of the sanctuary’s natural heritage for eco-tourism.

Hazarika further reaffirmed his support for the sanctuary and the surrounding region, saying, “As a local MLA, I extend my warm welcome to all the visitors.”
