GOSSAIGAON, Nov 21: Under the aegis of the Green Leaf Foundation, an awareness meeting-cum-training program on ‘Care and Treatment of Domesticated Animals and Birds during Winter’ was recently organised at Village No 1 Bhombrabil in Kokrajhar district.
The meeting-cum-training program dwelt at length on the challenges faced by domesticated animals and birds in the rural regions of Lower Assam during the winter months. The lack of proper care and sufficient medical treatment often results in significant losses for many farmers and livestock owners, occasionally leading to serious financial difficulties. To address this issue and improve awareness about the care and treatment of livestock during this season, the training program was organised in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agricultural Science Centre), Telipara.

Dr Tarani Kanta Kalita, veterinary development officer of the Gossaigaon sub-division, attended the program as the chief trainer. He delivered an extensive speech on the scientific rearing and care of domesticated animals and birds such as cows, goats, ducks, and chickens. He encouraged the women participants to adopt scientific livestock practices to achieve financial self-reliance.
Dr Muzaharul Islam, a subject matter expert in animal science at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kokrajhar, also attended as a distinguished guest. He emphasised the importance of training in livestock rearing and urged women participants to acquire training in various fields like livestock farming and agriculture to achieve profitability.
Dr Pankaj Chakraborty, a veterinary doctor from the Gossaigaon State Veterinary Hospital, discussed common diseases affecting domesticated animals and birds such as cows, goats, ducks, and chickens, along with their remedies.
At the end of the awareness meeting and training session, medicines for treating common diseases of animals and birds were distributed to around 28 self-help group members from No 1 Bhombrabil, No 2 Bhombrabil, and No 3 Dawaguri villages under the initiative of the Gossaigaon sub-division Livestock and Veterinary Department.
The event was attended by approximately 150 people, including members from 28 self-help groups, the secretary of the Village Defense Party of No 1 Bhombrabil, and several other guests.
