GUWAHATI, Nov 26: The Cachar District Administration observed Indian Constitution Day with a dignified ceremony at the premises of the District Commissioner’s office complex on Tuesday.
The event, led by the district commissioner, Mridul Yadav, highlighted the importance of the Constitution in shaping India’s democracy and governance.
In a solemn display of unity and commitment to constitutional values, Mridul Yadav read aloud the “Preamble to the Constitution”, which was echoed by the additional district commissioners, assistant commissioners and other administrative staff present at the ceremony.
The collective recitation served as a reaffirmation of their dedication to uphold the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.
Speaking on the occasion, DC, Mridul Yadav emphasised the need to reflect on the fundamental rights and duties as citizens, urging everyone to contribute towards building a progressive and inclusive nation. The event also included discussions on the historical significance of the Constitution, adopted on November 26, 1949, and its relevance in contemporary India.
The observance was marked by a spirit of reverence and pride as the district administration pledged to work tirelessly in the service of the people, guided by the principles of the Constitution.
This annual event underscores the significance of Constitution Day as an opportunity for citizens and officials alike to honor the visionary framework that continues to uphold the nation’s democratic ethos.

Our Dibrugarh correspondent adds: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dr Rohini Kanta Baruah Law College, Dibrugarh, in collaboration with the department of political science, D H S K College, organised a ‘Constitution Day’ celebration under the MoU initiative between the two institutions on Tuesday.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Saikat Patra, Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, who commended the organisers for celebrating this significant day, marking 75 years since the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
A pledge-taking ceremony of the Preamble of the Constitution of India was conducted as part of the event.
Dr Gautami Dutta Borah, principal of Dr R K B Law College, welcomed the gathering.
“Centre-State Relations and Emergency Provisions: The Manipur Crisis in Focus”, delivered by Dr Lamkholal Doungel, head of the department of political science, D H S K College. The thought-provoking session provided valuable insights into contemporary issues of constitutional governance.
Adding to the event’s significance, a book titled “District Administration in Assam: A Comprehensive Study of Dibrugarh District”, authored by Dr Lamkholal Doungel, was formally released by the chief guest, Dr Saiket Patra. During the release, Dr Doungel expressed his gratitude, stating, “Dibrugarh has been a great blessing to me, and this book is a small gift to Dibrugarh in return.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of both institutions. An engaging interactive session followed the lecture, allowing participants to delve deeper into the discussed themes.
The programme concluded with an official photo session and a vote of thanks delivered by R K Agarwalla, vice principal of Dr R K B Law College.
Our Tezpur correspondent adds: As the nation marks 75 years of adopting the Constitution on Tuesday, the Sonitpur District Administration observed the occasion with a ceremonial reading of the Preamble to the Constitution at the premises of the District Commissioner’s Office.
Leading the celebrations, district commissioner Ankur Bharali extended his greetings to all present on the momentous occasion.
In his address, the district commissioner highlighted the significance of the day, stating how on November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950, ushering in a new era in the history of India. This day is celebrated as ‘Constitution Day’ or ‘Samvidhan Diwas’, holds immense significance as it marks the enactment of the world’s longest written Constitution, symbolising the triumph of democracy.
District commissioner Bharali emphasised that the Constitution serves as a guiding force for all citizens and urged everyone to uphold its principles and perform their duties sincerely as responsible citizens of the nation.
Later on, the DC started reading the Preamble, with participation from district development commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, additional district commissioners Garga Mohan Das, Kabita Kakati Konwar, and Twahir Alam, along with assistant commissioners, key officials, and staff of the District Administration.
Following the Constitution Day celebration, the gathering paid tribute to the late Bhupen Mahanta, a Land Record Assistant in the Land Acquisition Branch, who passed away due to medical reasons on November 23, 2024. A one-minute silence was observed in his memory, praying for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
