Tezpur advocate burnt to death as fire guts house

TEZPUR, April 8: Advocate Bikash Kumar Sarma, a resident of the Baroholia area in Tezpur town, died after a fire broke out at his residence early Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 6 AM while Sarma and his elder sister were asleep in their old house. Neighbours out for a morning walk noticed the blaze and raised an alarm. While the sister managed to escape, Sarma was already engulfed in flames and could not be saved.

Upon receiving the information, a team from the fire brigade rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. The body was later sent to Kanaklata Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
