According to Debajit Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station, the detentions were made in the early hours based on a tip-off received by authorities.

“Acting on credible information and with support from local villagers, we apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals near a border-side village. They were brought to the police station for questioning. A case has been registered, and the individuals will be produced before the court,” Chatterjee said.

All five detainees are believed to be members of the same family from Bangladesh’s Kurigram district. The group includes two women and three men, identified as Manir Khan, Saheba Khatun, Shahjala Khan, Swadhin Khan, and Dulali Khatun.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that one of the detainees, Shahjala Khan, admitted to receiving assistance from an individual who facilitated their illegal border crossing. The group was reportedly travelling to Delhi at the time of their apprehension.
