SHILLONG, May 24: The Jaintia National Council (JNC)–Khliehriat Circle recently urged the state government to address the issue of drug menace in Meghalaya.
In a statement, JNC-KC working president Symboh Baiar Sumer said drug menace is a major threat to the society particularly the youth.
“We earnestly urge the concerned government departments to address this issue promptly and seriously,” he added.
The appeal was made after the JNC had apprehended two drug users and handed them over to their guardians for better care and treatment.
Sumer said the two apprehended individuals have revealed that there are several drug dealers operating in East Jaintia Hills district.
He said that the council reiterated its commitment to combat the drug menace to ensure supply and distribution of drugs are eradicated from the region. He also urged the community to come together to fight against drug trafficking. (NNN)
