MARGHERITA, May 27: In a solemn and heartfelt ceremony, the Margherita Block Congress Committee commemorated the 61st death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, freedom fighter, and Bharat Ratna awardee, on Tuesday. The event, held at Margherita Congress Bhawan, served as a poignant tribute to the visionary leader whose foundational contributions continue to shape the fabric of modern India.
Led by Tara Prasad Dehingia, President of the Margherita Block Congress Committee, and Vice President Devendra Pandey, the ceremony began with the lighting of earthen lamps and floral tributes placed before a portrait of Pandit Nehru, symbolising deep reverence for his enduring legacy.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Arup Sharma, General Secretary, along with Secretaries Mridul Buragohain and Jyotirmoi Nath, who joined in the commemorative proceedings.
In his address, Tara Prasad Dehingia spoke eloquently of Nehru’s visionary leadership and transformative role in shaping India’s destiny.
“Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a beacon of progress and unity for our nation. His foresight laid the foundation for modern India through pioneering initiatives such as the establishment of IITs, IIMs, ISRO, Indian School of Mines, AIIMS, BARC, and several agricultural and scientific research institutes,” Dehingia stated.
He also recalled major infrastructural landmarks under Nehru’s tenure, including the Bhakra Nangal, Hirakud, and Nagarjuna Sagar dams, as part of Nehru’s vision for a self-reliant India.
“His legacy continues to inspire generations as we strive for inclusive development and national unity,” Dehingia added.
The event served not only as a tribute to Nehru’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and post-independence development but also as a reaffirmation of his ideals that still guide the nation’s aspirations. The Margherita Block Congress Committee’s homage echoed with pride, respect, and a renewed commitment to uphold the values of progress, secularism, and democracy championed by Pandit Nehru.
