KOKRAJHAR, June 25: A district-level meeting to address the recent surge in malaria cases in parts of Kokrajhar was held on Wednesday at the conference hall of the Joint Director of Health Services (Jt DHS), Kokrajhar, with participation from student bodies including the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), the Santali Students’ Union, and the All Assam Santali Women’s Association.
The meeting was chaired by Sikha Barthakur, who delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of coordinated community efforts and the active role of youth in public health initiatives.
Representatives from the National Health Mission (NHM) and the student unions engaged in a constructive discussion on preventive strategies and awareness campaigns.
Deliberations focused on community mobilization, campus-based health initiatives, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to contain the rise in malaria cases, particularly in areas showing signs of endemic-like spread.
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government and the Health & Family Welfare Department have jointly undertaken efforts to curb the disease, including awareness programmes across the district.
The student bodies assured full cooperation and support in assisting the authorities to prevent further spread of malaria.
