GUWAHATI, June 26: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully commenced the end-to-end electric traction operation of the 12423/12424 Dibrugarh–New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, marking a major milestone in railway electrification and sustainable transport in the region.
The announcement was made in an official statement issued by NFR on Thursday.
The transition follows the completion of electrification works on the remaining sections of the Dibrugarh–Tinsukia–Lumding–Guwahati route.
The New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express began its electric operations on June 25, while the return journey from Dibrugarh to New Delhi will commence under electric traction from June 27.
According to the official statement, this achievement is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce travel time and costs, and contribute significantly to environmental sustainability. The move is part of Indian Railways’ broader objective of achieving 100% electrification and reducing carbon emissions.
Several other key trains connecting the eastern and northeastern regions are also transitioning to electric traction.
The Kolkata–Silghat Town Express (Train No. 13181) will begin electric operations on June 30, followed by the return service (Train No. 13182) on July 1.
The Howrah–Guwahati Saraighat Express (Train No. 12345) began running on electric traction from June 25, while the Guwahati–Howrah service (Train No. 12346) followed from June 26.
