DIPHU, July 2: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), East Karbi Anglong District, held a protest demonstration on Wednesday condemning the alleged attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy during a Congress-led protest in Golaghat on June 30.

As part of the demonstration, BJYM workers led a protest march from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the BJP’s East Karbi Anglong District office, under the leadership of BJYM-EKADC president Jiten Bey.

The procession was attended by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, BJP-EKADC president Roland Killing, local MLA Bidyasing Engleng, Executive Members and MACs of the KAAC, and other party leaders and workers.

The protestors raised slogans against the Congress and in support of the BJP and Chief Minister Sarma. Participants were heard chanting “Congress go back,” “BJP zindabad,” “CM zindabad,” “CEM Tuliram Ronghang zindabad,” “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” and “Vande Mataram.”

CEM Tuliram Ronghang, while addressing the gathering, condemned the incident and termed it “uncalled for.”

He said that around 20 Congress workers had attempted to disrupt the Chief Minister’s visit to Golaghat, Jorhat, and Tinsukia by hurling water bottles at his convoy. Ronghang urged the Congress party to desist from such conduct.

Echoing the same sentiment, BJYM-EKADC president Jiten Bey said the attack on the CM’s convoy was a result of political frustration.

He claimed that the Congress party was unable to digest the development initiatives being undertaken by the BJP-led government.

He further alleged that the Congress, having failed to deliver during its tenure, now seeks to disrupt governance through such actions.

Bey called upon law enforcement agencies to identify and take strict action against those responsible for the June 30 incident.
