The inaugural programme, organised by the District Agriculture Office, Biswanath, was held at the SIPRD Conference Hall in Biswanath and aimed at raising awareness among farmers about the benefits of crop insurance.
According to an official statement, the event was graced by District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, who attended as the chief guest.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of safeguarding farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities, and praised the role of the PMFBY scheme in providing a financial safety net to cultivators.
District Agriculture Officer Baneswar Bey, SDAO and District Nodal Officer Pradip Talukdar, Senior Agriculture Development Officers, and representatives from SBI General Insurance Company—the implementing agency for PMFBY in the district—were also present at the event.
The programme was attended by approximately 100 farmers from various parts of the district.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of Bharati Das Rajbangshi of Panibharal Gaon Panchayat, who was recognised as the top-performing Krishi Sakhi under the PMFBY Rabi 2024 campaign.
She was honoured for enrolling over 300 farmers under the scheme. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed to other Krishi Sakhis who demonstrated exceptional performance during the Rabi season.
The programme was hosted by Kundan Thapa, District In-Charge of SBI General Insurance.
Speaking on the occasion, Thapa outlined the schedule of the awareness campaign, which will run from July 1 to July 7 across various Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) circles in Biswanath district.
Officials expressed hope that the campaign would lead to increased participation in the PMFBY scheme and help farmers mitigate financial risks related to crop failures.
They urged farmers to take advantage of the scheme and assured them of the administration’s full support in accessing its benefits.
