DIPHU, July 4: A series of weather-related incidents struck the Donkamukam and Duar Amla areas of West Karbi Anglong on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others, according to an official statement issued by the district administration.
In Donkamukam, 26-year-old medical professional Dr Ruplin Rongpipi died after receiving an electric shock while attempting to install and reconnect an inverter at her residence near Donkamukam High School.
She was rushed to the Donkamukam Primary Health Centre but was declared brought dead by attending doctors.
In a separate incident in the same locality, a farmer identified as Ranjit Bey was struck by lightning while working in a paddy field.
He sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Donkamukam Hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
Meanwhile, in Rongincho village under the Duar Amla area, six people were injured due to a lightning strike.
Three of them—Semson Senar (30), Mirmili Tisopi (15), and Hemphi Rongpipi (26)—were seriously injured and referred from Baithalangso Dispensary to Nagaon Civil Hospital for advanced treatment.
The remaining three individuals, who suffered minor injuries, received medical attention at Edenbari Primary Health Centre and were later discharged.
All referred patients are stated to be in stable condition and under continuous medical supervision.
With such incidents becoming more frequent during the monsoon season, the district administration has urged residents to exercise caution.
In the official statement, the public was advised to stay updated with weather alerts and safety advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), and local authorities.
Officials have also stressed the importance of preparedness and adherence to safety guidelines to prevent such tragedies during episodes of extreme weather.
