DIBRUGARH, July 6: In a successful counter-insurgency operation, troops of the Assam Rifles from Wakka Company Operating Base (COB) under the Khonsa Battalion neutralised a suspected militant of the NSCN(K-YA) faction in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
The encounter took place during a routine patrol between Khogla and Lyangche when the troops came under sudden and heavy fire from a pre-planned ambush set up deep within the dense jungle terrain.
The Assam Rifles personnel responded swiftly with a well-coordinated counter-assault, compelling the insurgents to flee and abandon their position.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a temporary insurgent hideout and the body of one militant.
A substantial cache of war-like stores, including arms, ammunition, and other military-grade equipment, was also recovered from the site.
The nature and quantity of the seized materials suggest that the group was preparing for hostile activity in the region.
The operation has been seen as a significant blow to the NSCN(K-YA) faction and underlines the Assam Rifles’ commitment to maintaining peace and security along India’s northeastern frontiers.
