GUWAHATI, July 7: The Cachar District Health Department on Monday held a district-level convergence meeting to prepare for the upcoming ‘World Population Fortnight – 2025’, the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign’, and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) preparedness measures.
According to an official statement, the meeting brought together representatives from various government departments, private hospitals, and allied agencies to ensure a coordinated response to pressing public health concerns.
The meeting was attended by Deepa Das, ACS, Branch Officer (Health); Dr Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services; Dr Moinal Haque Barbhuiya, Additional Chief Medical & Health Officer; Dr Ratna Chakroborty, District Tuberculosis Officer (NTEP); Dr Ayesha Begum, Deputy Superintendent of Silchar Medical College & Hospital; along with SDM&HOs of all BPHCs, and officials from DPMU and BPMU under NHM Cachar.
Delegates from departments including Education, Social Welfare, ASRLM, Jal Jeevan Mission, NYKS, and several private healthcare institutions were also present.
As part of the World Population Fortnight observance, which begins on July 11, the district will organise family planning service camps across government and private facilities.
The camps will offer laparoscopic sterilisation, IUCD insertions, Antara injections, and counseling sessions to promote safe and effective family planning and population stabilisation.
Under the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025’, scheduled to run through July and August, ASHA workers will distribute ORS packets to all children under five and train caregivers on the proper use of ORS.
The campaign aims to reduce the incidence of childhood diarrhoeal diseases and calls for coordinated efforts between line departments and private medical practitioners.
Dr Ratna Chakroborty informed the gathering that the district will launch the ‘TB Mukta Bharat’ programme from July 1, which includes mass TB symptom screening and free treatment for confirmed cases in line with national TB elimination protocols.
Raising a critical alert, the Chief Medical & Health Officer reported one confirmed death due to Japanese Encephalitis in the district.
All public and private health facilities have been instructed to report fever cases promptly, conduct necessary JE testing, and alert the health department for immediate action.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the Wage Compensation Scheme for tea garden workers, the e-KYC process for Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) cards, and preparations for National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification of health facilities.
The Cachar District Health Department stated that with multi-sectoral coordination and detailed planning, the district is fully geared to implement these crucial health programmes aimed at protecting and improving public health outcomes.
