KOKRAJHAR, July 9: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Chirang district and chaired a high-level review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kajalgaon to assess the implementation of several flagship government welfare schemes and infrastructure initiatives.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister took stock of the progress made under schemes such as Orunodoi 3.0, Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA), and the ration card distribution drive.
In Chirang district alone, around 6,000 beneficiaries are expected to be covered under Orunodoi 3.0.
An estimated 1,200 youths will benefit from CMAAA, while another 1,200 women are targeted to receive support under the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.
Sarma directed the district administration to expedite the process of finalising beneficiary lists and to ensure that no eligible individual is left out of the welfare programmes.
He emphasised the importance of inclusive implementation to meet the intended objectives of the schemes.
During the review, the Chief Minister also examined the district’s connectivity infrastructure and addressed long-pending local demands, particularly concerning the Champa river.
He announced the construction of four new bridges across the river to improve transportation and accessibility for communities on both banks.
Further, Sarma declared that several new roads would be developed under the Asom Mala project to bolster rural connectivity and drive regional development in Chirang.
The review meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma and senior government officials from various departments.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister visited Bijni, where he addressed a public rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
