GUWAHATI, July 12: In a significant stride toward inclusive development and last-mile service delivery, the Cachar district administration has successfully concluded a widespread campaign of awareness and welfare camps under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA).
Conducted from June 17 to 28 across six development blocks and the Silchar municipal area, the initiative brought essential government benefits directly to the doorsteps of tribal communities, many of whom reside in some of the district’s most geographically and administratively remote areas.
According to an official statement, the campaign began in the Lakhipur Development Block—Cachar’s lone Aspirational Block—where five camps were organised in the villages of Lakhicherra, Lakhinagar, Kapakhal, Ramgaizang, and Diger Fulertal.
These camps witnessed the participation of over 500 residents, with nearly 370 individuals from the Hmar, Ranjbangshi, Barman, and Rongmei communities availing of direct benefits.
Departments including Health, Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries, and Panchayat & Rural Development worked in close coordination, while the Bharat Sevashram Sangha extended logistical support.
A wide array of services was delivered at these camps, including Aadhaar enrolment, Ayushman Bharat and PM-Kisan registration, sickle cell disease screening, disbursal of pensions, and facilitation of MGNREGA-related assistance.
On June 23 and 24, the Rajabazar Development Block hosted two additional camps at Joypur Pt-III and Pt-IV.
Targeted primarily at the Barman (Dimasa Kachari) population, these camps facilitated services such as caste certificate issuance, ration card distribution, Kisan Credit Card registration, Mudra loan facilitation, and Ayushman Bharat enrolment.
Nearly 300 residents were reached during this leg of the campaign.
Subsequent camps followed in Tapang, Narsingpur, Kalain, and Udharband blocks.
Notable among them were the camps at Sabaspur Naga Punjee in Tapang, which saw participation from the Naga community; Choto Salganga in Narsingpur, where Khasia and Riang tribal residents availed of numerous welfare schemes; and Damcherra Khasia Punjee in Kalain and Nayagram in Udharband, which ensured representation even from smaller Khasi and Barman habitations.
Silchar town too joined the initiative with two special urban camps held at Gandhi Bhawan.
Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and coordinated by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, the events featured high-level participation.
Sushil Bading, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, reiterated the Centre’s commitment to tribal development.
Unhale Ashish Vidyadhar, IAS, Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation, District Development Commissioner Narsing Bey, and Zilla Parishad CEO P K Borah were among the officials who addressed the gatherings.
The urban leg of the campaign also included an engaging street play at Gandhi Bagh Park, aimed at spreading awareness through cultural performance.
Altogether, 13 camps—11 in rural development blocks and two in Silchar—were conducted as part of the DAJGUA initiative.
The official statement emphasised that the campaign achieved high saturation in terms of service coverage and eligibility fulfillment.
It stands as a testament to the district administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring that no tribal household remains outside the fold of development.
By reaching the unreached with compassion and administrative resolve, the Cachar district administration has demonstrated how governance can be made accessible, participatory, and impactful—irrespective of terrain or remoteness.
