New species of day gecko discovered on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in Assam

GUWAHATI, July 15: A new species of day gecko has been discovered on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.

It is the second species of such kind recorded in the Northeast, he said.

“New addition to Assam’s rich biodiversity! A new species of day gecko has been discovered on the banks of Brahmaputra & named Cnemaspis Brahmaputra,” Sarma said in a post on X.

“This is only the 2nd species of such kind recorded in Northeast,” he said, congratulating the researchers behind this discovery. (PTI)
