MANGALDAI, July 16: Krishna Saha, chairperson of the Kharupetia Municipal Council, participated in a two-day national conference of Urban Local Body (ULB) leaders, held in Gurugram on July 3–4.
The event, jointly organised by the Indian Parliament and the Haryana Legislative Assembly, focused on the role of ULBs in strengthening constitutional democracy and nation-building.
Fourteen chairpersons and vice-chairpersons from various municipal bodies in Assam took part in the conference, which brought together local leaders from across the country.

The sessions covered key governance issues such as empowering women, uplifting marginalized sections of society, and promoting environmental cleanliness.
Speaking to the media upon her return, Ms. Saha described the event as a valuable platform for municipal leaders to share perspectives and engage in meaningful dialogue.
She said the conference helped reaffirm the importance of ULBs as grassroots institutions that uphold democratic principles and drive local development.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Chief Minister of Haryana, and several Union Ministers, all of whom underscored the critical role of urban governance in shaping a progressive and inclusive India.
Saha expressed her gratitude to Speaker Om Birla for his leadership in convening the conference and highlighted the need for continued support to local bodies in addressing emerging governance challenges.
