DIPHU, Aug 11: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Thursday distributed cheques of Rs 1 lakh to the 16 landless families who were evicted from 5 km Lumding Road here on which the court complex is to be built.
Distributing the cheques in the KAAC conference hall, Ronghang said, “KAAC authority has extended financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for construction of their houses. Tin sheets of four bundles to each of the family have already been given. The Land has been provided free of cost.”

He further said, “The local MAC of Lumbajong Johny Timung has donated his land to rehabilitate the 16 landless families. The families should express their gratitude to the MAC for his generosity and kind heart.”
The CEM promised to provide roads, electricity, potable water, ration cards and government schemes.
The programme was attended by Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Amarsing Tisso and Mangalsing Timung; MLA Dorsing Ronghang and MACs Johny Timung and Madhurjya Dhekial Phukan and former MLA Dharamsing Teron.
It may be mentioned that on July 2 last as per the Gauhati High Court order, the Land & Revenue Department of KAAC evicted 35 families occupying the allotted land for construction of the District Judicial Court Complex at Rongpangthir, Lumding Road. On being evicted the CEM announced to allot land to the genuine landless families and an amount of Rs 1 lakh for the construction of their houses.
