Darrang College and Alumni Association to celebrate Foundation Day and Grand Alumni Reunion

TEZPUR, July 19: Darrang College,Tezpur  one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in North Assam—is set to celebrate a dual milestone with the 81st Foundation Day of the College and the 31st Foundation Day of its Alumni Association on July 26.

Both events will be marked with day-long celebrations on the college campus.

Founded on 26 July 1945 by a group of visionary educationists and social leaders, Darrang College has grown into a renowned centre of academic and intellectual excellence in Assam.

This year, the institution earned further distinction by receiving autonomous status recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC), a moment of pride for the entire Darrang College fraternity as well as the residents of Tezpur and surrounding areas.

The Foundation Day program will begin with college flag hoisting at 9:30 AM and Alumni Association flag hoisting at 10:00 AM, followed by the main celebration at 10:30 AM.

On this occasion, three illustrious alumni of the college, Pankaj Kumar Bora (Referee of International Arm Wrestling), Utpal Barua (recently appointed Assam Information Commissioner), and Dr Pratibha Sharma (Project Director, Sattriya Centre, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Guwahati) will be specially felicitated.

During the programme educational endowment awards will also be presented to the concerned students and the day long programme will conclude with a cultural evening featuring performances by alumni.

Further, the Darrang College Alumni Association has also announced a Grand Alumni Reunion on October 26. A Steering Committee and nine subcommittees including Registration, Publicity, Communication, Volunteers, Finance, Food & Publications, Cultural, and Stage & Decoration have been formed to coordinate the event.

The reunion program will feature registration from 9:00 AM, flag hoisting, a tribute ceremony, tree plantation, an open session, special honours for senior alumni, and a cultural extravaganza.

To mark the occasion, the Association will also release a special commemorative volume, and a minimum registration fee of Rs 1,000 has been set for participants.

The Alumni Association invites all former students to join these landmark events and strengthen their bond with their alma mater.

The meeting, presided over by President of Alumni Association Dhrubajyoti Das, began with a briefing of the purpose of the meeting by General Secretary Dr Hemanta Jyoti Nath.

During the session, various individuals delivered speeches, including the founding General Secretary of the association and retired Principal of the college, Dr Abani Kumar Sharma; Advisors Ashwini Sharma; Vice Presidents Nripen Kumar Bora, Diganta Goswami, and Dr Gahan Chandra Mahanta; senior members Manoranjan Nath and Sutham Das, former General Secretary of the Student  Union  Ratan Dutta, former Joint Secretary of Darrang College Alumni Association Pankaj Barua , Assistant Secretaries Achyut Sharma and Indrani Tamuli, among others.
