Tezpur University hosts workshop on Applied Econometrics for researchers

TEZPUR, July 20: Tezpur University successfully concluded a six-day interdisciplinary short-term course on “Application of Econometrics in Research: Recent Trends,” held from July 14 to 19 under the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) in collaboration with the Department of Commerce.

More than 30 participants from institutions including Dibrugarh University, Nagaland University, Rabindranath Tagore University (Hojai), Binny Yanga Government Women’s College (Arunachal Pradesh), Gargaon College, Bikali College, North Bank College, Barbhag College, Bongaigaon College, Bhattadev University, Kaliabor College, and Sonapur College, among others, took part in the programme.

Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh graced the valedictory session as Chief Guest.

Emphasising the importance of the subject, Prof Singh stated, “Proficiency in econometrics is no longer optional—it is essential in today’s data-driven academic and research landscape.”

He also commended the course design, which incorporated lectures, hands-on training in econometric software, sessions on artificial intelligence tools, and mental health well-being.

Other speakers at the valedictory session included Prof Sankar Chandra Deka, Dean, School of Engineering; Prof Subhrangshu Sekhar Sarkar, Director, Directorate of International Affairs; Dr Reshma K Tiwari, Head, Department of Commerce; and Dr Akhilesh Kumar, Director, MMTTC.

Resource persons from the University of Lucknow, Gauhati University, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, IIIT Guwahati, Dibrugarh University, Institute of Public Enterprise Hyderabad, and Tezpur University conducted interactive sessions.

The course covered modules on Time Series Regression, Panel Data Models, Regression Diagnostics, and Simultaneous Equation Modeling, with practical sessions using R and SmartPLS.

A paper presentation segment and MCQ-based assessments were also part of the programme.

Graded e-certificates were issued to participants scoring above 50 per cent in the overall assessment.

The event was coordinated by Dr Farah Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce.
