MARGHERITA, July 13: A wave of optimism is sweeping through the farming communities of Margherita as solar-powered irrigation projects continue to bring transformative changes to agricultural practices in the region.
The latest addition—a solar irrigation system installed at 2 No Alubari village under the 83rd Margherita Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district—is proving to be a game-changer for over a hundred farming families.
Previously affected by erratic rainfall and limited irrigation options, farmers in the area can now cultivate their fields throughout the year.
The project, facilitated by the Assam Agriculture Department and supported through government initiatives, replaces traditional irrigation methods with a sustainable, eco-friendly solution.
The initiative gained traction after local farmers submitted a long-standing appeal for reliable irrigation to 83rd Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma.
Responding promptly, the MLA coordinated with relevant departments and secured the ₹35 lakh solar-powered irrigation project for the village.
Farmers from Alubari and neighbouring areas have expressed gratitude towards the Margherita legislator, stating that the dependable irrigation system is expected to significantly enhance their productivity and livelihoods.
“This project has changed our lives,” said a local farmer, “and we thank Bhaskar Sharma sir for turning our appeal into action.”
The success of the initiative has raised expectations for more such projects in the future, signalling a strong move towards self-reliant agriculture in the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency under Tinsukia district.
