GUWAHATI, July 21: Justice Ashutosh Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court at a formal ceremony held at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra International Auditorium on Monday.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office in the presence of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to an official statement, the event marked a significant moment in the judicial history of the region, with senior members of the legal and administrative community in attendance.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Advocate General of Assam, Devajit Saikia, Judges of the Gauhati High Court, and prominent members of the legal fraternity.
Also present on the occasion were Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Dr Ravi Kota, Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, Special Chief Secretary Syedin Abbasi, and other senior officials from the state government.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar assumes office as the Chief Justice of one of the oldest and most prominent High Courts in the Northeast.
His appointment is expected to add further impetus to the administration of justice in the region.
