The directive came during a comprehensive review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at his Secretariat in Dibrugarh on Wednesday.

According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the meeting was part of a wider initiative to assess the status of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects across multiple constituencies, including Nowboicha LAC in Lakhimpur district.

The review covered key sectors such as flood mitigation, infrastructure, irrigation, rural employment, and welfare programmes.

Reiterating that the safety and well-being of people in flood-vulnerable regions is a top priority for the State Government, Sarma instructed Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Pranabjit Kakoty to undertake urgent measures to reinforce and strengthen all embankments along vulnerable stretches in Nowboicha.

He further directed the construction of raised platforms that can be used as temporary shelters for people displaced by seasonal floods.

“These embankments are crucial in safeguarding lives and livelihoods during the monsoon months. The government will ensure all necessary support for their maintenance and upgradation,” the Chief Minister stated, while underlining the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of recurring floods.

The official statement added that Sarma also reviewed progress under various developmental schemes being implemented in Nowboicha LAC, including PWD infrastructure projects, water resources and irrigation-related works, MGNREGA and Amrit Sarovar.

He instructed that the Amrit Sarovars should be developed in a manner that supports pisciculture, offering both ecological benefits and livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Minister Ranoj Pegu, MLA Manab Deka, chief secretary Ravi Kota and other senior officials were present during the review, which focused on enhancing administrative efficiency and the timely execution of government programmes.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister conducted a similar review of developmental initiatives in the Sonari Legislative Assembly Constituency at the same venue.

The meeting, attended by Minister for Industries and Commerce Bimal Bora and Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar among others, highlighted multiple infrastructure and welfare interventions for Charaideo district.

In addition to the review of schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, Sarma announced the construction of a modern 800-seater auditorium in Sonari and a new FCI godown to improve food storage and distribution.

He also directed officials to conduct feasibility studies for the proposed Nahar Ali Railway Overbridge and instructed PWD to undertake a revamp of Sonari Town Road.

The chief minister emphasised the upgradation of border roads in Charaideo district and the need for quality education infrastructure at the Navodaya Vidyalaya in Sonari.

Later in the day, Sarma also reviewed developmental progress in Tingkhong LAC of Dibrugarh district.

The government’s multi-district review meetings are part of a broader administrative approach aimed at delivering people-centric governance, ensuring transparency, and accelerating the pace of development across Assam, the official statement concluded.
