KOKRAJHAR, July 25: Assam State Election Commissioner Ranjan Sarma on Thursday chaired a review meeting at the District Commissioner’s conference hall in Kokrajhar to assess the preparedness for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, 2025.
Gitartha Baruah, Secretary of the Assam State Election Commission, along with senior officials of the district and police administration, including BTR IGP Vivek Raj Singh, Kokrajhar DC Masanda Magdalin Pertin, SP Pushparaj Singh, ADC Subhram Aditya Bora, Election Officer Keshabanda Taid, Assistant Returning Officers, and Executive Magistrates, participated in the meeting.

In his address, the State Election Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the election preparedness and commended the district administration for the timely publication of the Draft Electoral Rolls.
He emphasised the need for detailed planning, effective inter-departmental coordination, and strict adherence to guidelines to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in the region.
The preparedness of all 912 polling stations spread across the 12 BTC constituencies in Kokrajhar district was reviewed.
Particular focus was given to identifying and mapping critical and vulnerable polling stations, including nine booths flagged based on high voter concentration during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting also discussed the deployment and training of sector officers and polling personnel, with an estimated requirement of around 4,378 officials.
Officials assessed the readiness of distribution and collection centres, with plans to establish one hub for every 10 to 12 polling stations in Parbatjhora, Gossaigaon, and Kokrajhar subdivisions.
Transport and communication logistics, as well as security deployment strategies, were thoroughly reviewed.
The functioning of Control Rooms, Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs), Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs), Flying Squads, and the deployment of sector and zonal magistrates were also discussed to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and rapid response.
Sarma urged all stakeholders to maintain a proactive and coordinated approach in the lead-up to the polls.
He underscored the importance of transparency and neutrality, and called for strict compliance with the Model Code of Conduct once notified.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and credible election process in the Bodoland Territorial Region and thanked the district officials for their systematic groundwork.
