GUWAHATI, July 29: Dima Hasao Police have arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh on charges of fraud, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Shivam Pandey of Gorakhpur, allegedly posed as an official of MIGLOX Petroleum Pvt Ltd and duped several individuals in Haflong, including a local hotelier.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by the hotelier, who stated that Pandey failed to clear his hotel bills and collected ₹25,000 from him under the false pretext of offering shares through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the company.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Faruque Ahmed, stated that Pandey misled multiple people by falsely claiming to represent a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and an upcoming IPO.
Police confirmed that MIGLOX Petroleum Pvt. Ltd. has issued no such IPO, establishing the fraudulent nature of the claims.
