GUWAHATI, Aug. 1: World Breastfeeding Week was launched in Kamrup Metropolitan district on Friday with an inaugural programme held at the Dhirenpara First Referral Unit (FRU) in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, and the District Health Committee.
The week-long observance, held across the state from August 1 to 7, aims to raise awareness among mothers about the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of newborns.
According to officials, the inaugural event was attended by Joint Director of Health Services Dr Apurba Krishna Sharma and officials from NHM.
As part of the week, special awareness campaigns will be conducted at health centres in the district to educate expectant and nursing mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding.
