Youth drowns in Hadhadi waterfall near Chapanala

NAGAON, Aug 4: A 21-year-old businessman from Nagaon town drowned in the Hadhadi waterfall near Chapanala under Samaguri Police Station in Nagaon district on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sanayam Jain, son of the late Sudarshan Jain.

According to sources, he was visiting the site with four male and three female friends when the incident occurred during recreational water activities.

Following the incident, panic gripped the area. Locals and friends informed the police, after which personnel from Samaguri Police Station and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation.

Jain’s body was later recovered and sent to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Nagaon-Batadroba MLA Rupak Sarma expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Local residents noted that this was not the first such incident at Hadhadi waterfall and Blue Water Lake, which have seen multiple drowning cases in recent years.

The community has urged the district administration to implement safety measures at popular tourist spots across the district.
