Arunachal: DLSA conducts legal awareness camp in remote border village

TAWANG, Aug 5: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tawang, conducted a one-day free legal awareness programme at Damteng village near the Indo-Tibet border recently to promote access to justice and legal literacy in remote areas.

According to an official statement, the outreach event was organised at the Holy Waterfall area of Damteng and was attended by 88 participants.

Key topics covered during the session included the structure and functioning of the Arunachal Pradesh judiciary, the Victim Compensation Scheme, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Legal experts and judicial officers served as resource persons during the programme.

Among them were Ito Basar, Chairman, DLSA Tawang and District & Sessions Judge, Bomdila; Mary Jonnam, in-charge Secretary, DLSA Tawang and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bomdila; Adv Thupten Tashi, Public Prosecutor, Tawang; Adv. Lawang Noubu, Public Prosecutor, Bomdila; Adv Kahmu Desisow, Special Public Prosecutor (NDPS); Adv Dorjee Wangdi; and Adv Lobsang Tashi, Additional Legal Aid Defence Counsel (ALADC), Tawang.

The sessions focused on legal rights, especially of victims, and detailed the judicial processes related to narcotics cases.

Participants were encouraged to engage in discussions and seek clarifications.

The programme, part of DLSA Tawang’s continuing outreach initiatives, reflects its efforts to ensure equitable access to legal services and justice even in the state’s most inaccessible regions.
