ITANAGAR, Aug 7: On the solemn occasion of the Quit India Movement Commemoration Day, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt General KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd), extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state and paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the country’s freedom fighters.
In a message issued on Thursday, the Governor expressed hope that the indomitable spirit of the Quit India Movement would continue to inspire citizens to stand resolutely against all forms of injustice and inequality.
According to an official statement, the Governor reflected on the historical significance of the Quit India Movement, describing it as one of the most defining chapters in India’s long and arduous struggle for independence.
Recalling the events of August 8, 1942, he said the movement—launched under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi with the resolute call of “Do or Die”—galvanised the nation into action and triggered an unprecedented wave of civil resistance against British colonial rule.
The Governor noted that despite brutal crackdowns, the arrest of top national leaders, and the suppression of civil liberties, the movement ignited a collective consciousness that transcended regional, religious, and linguistic boundaries.
It gave rise to a renewed spirit of self-determination, and its legacy continues to remind the nation of the extraordinary courage and unity demonstrated by countless unsung heroes in the face of tyranny.
Lt General Parnaik further stated that while the context today is vastly different, the essence of the movement remains deeply relevant.
He stressed that the challenges faced by independent India—poverty, inequality, ignorance, and corruption—are internal struggles that demand the same level of resolve and collective effort.
“The call today is no less urgent,” the Governor said in his message, “We must free our nation from the chains that continue to hold us back—not foreign rule, but social and economic evils that weaken the foundations of our democracy and development.”
He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to rise above divisive tendencies and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
Emphasising the importance of unity, inclusivity, and self-reliance, the Governor called upon people from all walks of life to dedicate themselves to building a stronger and more equitable India.
The Quit India Movement Commemoration Day is observed each year to honour the sacrifices of the leaders and common citizens who took part in the 1942 uprising.
The Governor’s message serves as a reminder that the legacy of India’s freedom struggle is not just a matter of historical pride, but a call to action to continue striving toward justice, equality, and national upliftment in the present day.
