KOKRAJHAR, Aug 7: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday addressed two Vijay Sankalp rallies held at Ramfalbil and Fakiragram in Kokrajhar district, drawing large gatherings of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters.
The rallies, organised by the BJP, were aimed at strengthening the party’s base in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
Speaking at Ramfalbil under Dotma BTC constituency, the chief minister outlined the party’s roadmap for peace, development, and inclusive growth in the region.
He described the restoration of peace in BTR as the “single biggest achievement” of the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Assam.
“Since the BJP assumed power in Delhi and Dispur, not a single person has died due to gun violence in BTR. This marks a historic departure from the past, when nearly 4,000 lives were lost and numerous families displaced due to conflict,” Sarma said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to lasting peace, stability, and holistic development in BTR, ensuring that welfare schemes from both the state and central governments reach all communities equitably.
The rally was attended by cabinet minister Ashok Singhal, BJP MLAs, Executive Members of BTC, MCLAs, and other senior party functionaries. Later in the day, the chief minister addressed a similar gathering at the Fakiragram playground, continuing his outreach efforts in the run-up to the BTC elections.
