MARGHERITA, Aug 12: On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district came alive with patriotic spirit as hundreds of motorcycles adorned with the tricolour roared through the streets in a spectacular “Tiranga Yatra” on Tuesday, painting the region in hues of saffron, white and green and uniting communities in a celebration of freedom and unity.
The “Tiranga Yatra” unfolded across two routes, the first beginning at Powai MV School and weaving through the heart of Margherita, while the second started from Jagun Bazaar. Both routes converged at the Bargolai Bashbari Playground, where the air resonated with chants of patriotism and pride.

The rally was led by 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency MLA Bhaskar Sharma, alongside Tinsukia Zila Parishad Chairman Bhadeswar Moran, Margherita Anchalik Panchayat President Moonmi Gogoi, senior BJP leaders Bhim Karmakar, Bhabesh Dutta, Sukhdev Sharma, Suman Khalen, Anand Kumar Sharma, panchayat presidents, anchalik panchayat members, ward members from 13 gaon panchayats and Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha members.
The organisers aimed to ignite the spark of patriotism in the younger generation, reminding them of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters for the country’s independence and the values that bind the nation together.
Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma said that under the instruction of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam State Committee, Tiranga Yatras will be held from August 12 to 15 in every Assembly constituency of Assam. He said that the grand Tiranga Yatra at Margherita was organised by BJP Margherita Sadar, Town and Block units with the assistance of residents, adding that the people have full faith in the BJP due to the development work undertaken under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
As the sun set, the Tiranga Yatra left an indelible mark, inspiring hearts and spreading a message of harmony and national pride. With the tricolour fluttering high, the event set the tone for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, reinforcing the spirit of a united and resilient India.
