PASIGHAT, Aug 21: “Ayi ke Ekum,” a society dedicated to elder care, observed World Senior Citizens Day at its Elder Care Centre in Ranaghat, Pasighat, with a programme aimed at honouring the contributions of the elderly and creating awareness about their needs and welfare.
According to an official statement, the event was organised to highlight the importance of recognising the roles played by senior citizens in building society and to emphasise the responsibility of families and communities in supporting them.
Speaking on the occasion, Anima Nonang, Joint Secretary of the society, underlined the invaluable role of elders in shaping and strengthening communities, noting that their wisdom and life experiences continue to guide younger generations.
In her keynote address, Pimi Tato, Vice President of the organisation, explained the objectives behind celebrating World Senior Citizens Day.
She called upon caregivers within families to engage more actively with their elderly members, provide them with companionship, and extend emotional as well as practical support to ensure that they lead dignified and fulfilling lives.
The observance also featured activities designed to promote both physical and mental stimulation among the elderly.
Various age-related games were organised to encourage participation and provide recreation.
An awareness campaign on Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) was also conducted during the programme.
Bir Bahadur Rai, District Programme Coordinator of CMAAY and AB PM-JAY for East Siang district, explained the benefits of the scheme and assisted senior citizens above the age of seventy in enrolling for the health coverage.
This effort, the statement noted, was aimed at ensuring that elderly individuals have access to essential healthcare facilities without financial hardship.
The society “Ayi ke Ekum” is a non-profit organisation that works with the primary objective of enhancing the quality of life of senior citizens.
Through initiatives such as elder care services, awareness programmes, and community engagement activities, the organisation seeks to promote dignity, security, and well-being for older persons.
The observance of World Senior Citizens Day in Pasighat was part of its continued commitment to advocate for elder rights and provide meaningful support to one of the most respected yet vulnerable sections of society.
