KYIDPHEL/TAWANG, Aug 21: A comprehensive Horticulture Awareness cum Input Distribution Programme was organised on Thursday in Kyidphel under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), a flagship initiative of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), a centrally sponsored scheme.

According to an official statement, the programme was aimed at promoting organic horticulture practices, equipping local farmers with essential agricultural inputs, and encouraging sustainable farming methods to improve productivity and income.

The event was attended by Assistant Commissioner of Kyidphel, Tsering Chedon, as the chief guest.

In her address, she highlighted the importance of horticulture as a sustainable and perennial source of livelihood in the region.

She urged farmers to cultivate climate-suited fruit plants, adopt group farming to achieve better marketing and profitability, and to make full use of government-sponsored schemes, particularly those provided under the Vibrant Village Programme.

The chief guest further advised the District Horticulture Officer to ensure that horticulture staff are trained adequately so that farmers receive effective technical guidance in adopting modern and organic practices.

The District Horticulture Officer of Tawang, Safior Rahman, spoke on the environmental, health, and economic benefits of organic farming.

He also conducted practical demonstrations on appropriate doses and spray schedules for organic manure, pesticides, fungicides, bactericides, virucides, and granular fertilizers.

Senior public leader Tenzin Monpa addressed farmers in Hindi and the local dialect, explaining the pattern of assistance under the scheme and encouraging farmers to maximise the use of inputs provided to them. District Development Consultant of Tawang, Keertika Kashyap, highlighted various farm-based programmes supported by NABARD and assured the farming community of support in capacity building and skill development.

Representing the MLA of the 2-Tawang (ST) Assembly Constituency, Thutan Nima called upon farmers to make full and efficient use of the resources distributed during the programme.

Earlier, Sub-Divisional Horticulture Officer Koncho Gyatso delivered the welcome address, introducing the scope of departmental schemes under the Vibrant Village Programme and stressing the importance of empowering farmers with both knowledge and resources.

The highlight of the programme was the symbolic distribution of horticultural input kits to 72 farm families by the chief guest and other dignitaries.

Each kit included vegetable seed kits with 12 varieties of hybrid seeds, liquid organic manure kits, organic pesticides and fungicides, organic bactericides, organic granular manure, and sprayers.

The distribution was a gesture of the Government’s commitment to promoting sustainable horticulture and strengthening rural livelihoods.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Gaon Buras, PRI members, public leaders, horticulture staff, and other stakeholders.

Together, they pledged to work collectively towards rural development and horticultural prosperity.

The official statement said that the initiative marked a significant step toward building organic, climate-resilient, and profitable farming practices in Kyidphel Block, and would contribute to long-term agricultural sustainability in the region.
