GUWAHATI, Sept 5: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday lauded the Narendra Modi-led Central government for what he described as a consistent commitment to the welfare of the poor and the middle class, highlighting a series of reforms and schemes that he said have transformed lives across the country.
In a post on X, Sarma wrote: “The Modi Govt has always cared for the poor and middle class and over the years taken various steps for them Income Tax exemption limit raised to 12 LPA Major GST reforms Unified Pension Scheme PM Awaas Ayushman Bharat Control on inflation Lower interest rates.”
The Chief Minister said these initiatives have provided both economic relief and social security, ensuring that citizens across different income groups benefit from inclusive growth.
He noted that the raising of the income tax exemption limit to ₹12 lakh annually has brought significant relief to salaried individuals, while major reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime have simplified taxation and reduced compliance burdens for businesses.
Sarma also pointed to the Unified Pension Scheme as a major step towards ensuring financial security for retirees, while schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana have provided affordable housing to lakhs of families. Similarly, Ayushman Bharat has extended health insurance coverage to vulnerable sections of society, he added.
According to him, measures taken by the Centre to control inflation and maintain lower interest rates have helped stabilise household budgets and spur economic activity.
“The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been to ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society, particularly the poor and middle class. The results are visible across sectors — from healthcare and housing to tax reforms and inflation control,” Sarma said in his post.
The Chief Minister has frequently echoed his support for the Modi government’s welfare policies, insisting that such reforms have a direct impact on people’s lives and reflect the Centre’s pro-people governance model.
