Prohibitory orders enforced in Kokrajhar ahead of BTC polls 2025

GOSSAIGAON, Sept 8: Prohibitory orders have been enforced across Kokrajhar district by District Magistrate Masanda M Pertin in view of the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Election 2025.

The orders have been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 to ensure peace, security, and the smooth conduct of the elections.

As per the order, carrying licensed arms is banned throughout the district until the completion of the electoral process.

Exemptions are provided only to police personnel, army and paramilitary forces on election duty, and sportsmen affiliated with the National Rifle Association of India participating in recognised sporting events, subject to production of valid documents.

The District Magistrate’s directive also prohibits unauthorised public meetings, rallies, and processions.

The use of vehicles for electioneering, human rallies without prior approval, organising fairs or melas without permission, use of loudspeakers without clearance, carrying weapons or explosives, and torchlight processions have also been restricted.

The orders will remain in force until further notice.

Executive Magistrates, police officials, and security forces engaged in election duty are exempt from these restrictions.

District Magistrate Pertin said the preventive measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incidents, maintain public tranquillity, and ensure the peaceful and fair conduct of the BTC Election 2025 in Kokrajhar district.
