Under the revised scheme, each beneficiary will now receive ₹1,250 per month, with an additional ₹250 earmarked for LPG purchase. The Chief Minister described the move as the state’s commitment to empower women through direct financial inclusion.

Launched in 2020, Orunodoi has become one of Assam’s largest social welfare programmes, aimed at providing financial security to women-led households. Sarma stated that the scheme has influenced similar initiatives in other states, such as Ladli Behna in Madhya Pradesh and Lokkhi Bhandar in West Bengal.

Posting on X, Sarma said the expansion marked a new phase in Assam’s poverty alleviation efforts. He also urged the Opposition Congress to support the scheme instead of criticising it, calling it “a debt we are repaying to our mothers for their lifelong sacrifices.”
