Guwahati, 09 Oct: The Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MFSDS&AI) at IIT Guwahati celebrated the graduation of its inaugural B.Tech cohort (2021-2025). Launched in 2021 in partnership with the Mehta Family Foundation, the programme was among the first undergraduate courses in the IIT system dedicated to Data Science and AI.
The four-year curriculum combined science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and humanities with specialised training in data science, AI applications, and hands-on projects. Students worked on cutting-edge problems including deepfake detection, large language model automation, conversational AI, multimodal healthcare, federated learning, and robotics, with several projects submitted or accepted for peer-reviewed publications.
Placement data from IIT Guwahati shows 91 per cent of the 22-strong batch secured offers from global recruiters such as Google, Microsoft, and Warner Bros Discovery, while one student will pursue higher studies at Carnegie Mellon University.
Students also gained practical experience through internships, including an international assignment in Japan, and excelled in competitions like Kaggle Masters, JPMC Quant Challenge, and Amazon ML. Rahul Mehta of the Mehta Family Foundation described the outcome as a validation of the vision behind the School, highlighting the combined efforts of IIT Guwahati faculty and student talent in shaping leaders for the growing field of AI.
