YINGKIONG, Oct 10: The Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS), Yingkiong Branch, joined the rest of the State in celebrating the 46th Foundation Day of the organisation with great enthusiasm and a renewed pledge to uphold women’s rights and empowerment.
The event, held at the APWWS office at Lingki Hills, Yingkiong, drew large participation from senior women pioneers, members of the Yingkiong and Simong units, Gorkha women, and women representatives from various walks of life.
The day-long celebration was marked by cultural performances, speeches, and the formal induction of new office bearers of the Yingkiong Branch.
Kasimang Jopir Pazing assumed charge as the new President, while Aseng Taron took over as General Secretary of the branch.
At the outset, Obek Panyang, Executive Member of APWWS, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and conveyed her greetings on the occasion.
She lauded the members for their enduring spirit and unity that have kept the organisation’s mission alive over the years.
Outgoing General Secretary Kosiang Pangkam, in her address, recalled the journey and achievements of the organisation and expressed gratitude to the womenfolk of Yingkiong for their steadfast support during her tenure.
She emphasised that the Foundation Day serves as a reminder of the society’s collective efforts to safeguard women’s dignity and promote social justice.
Outgoing President Kalpana Perme Sitek highlighted the milestone achievement of establishing an independent APWWS office in Yingkiong — a long-cherished dream realised through consistent effort and cooperation from all stakeholders.
She thanked every member for their unwavering contribution and encouraged them to continue working for the cause of women’s empowerment and self-reliance.
In her maiden address, new president Kasimang Jopir Pazing expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her leadership and pledged to uphold the organisation’s vision through teamwork and dedication.
She called for unity among women, transcending all social and cultural barriers, and urged them to approach the APWWS Yingkiong Branch or the One Stop Centre for assistance in times of distress.
“We must work together to uphold justice, maintain morality and dignity, and discourage wrong practices even among women. Our collective voice is our strength,” she asserted, seeking continued cooperation to elevate women’s rights and welfare in the district.
New General Secretary Aseng Taron reaffirmed her commitment to work diligently for the welfare of women and children and to strengthen the society’s outreach and support mechanisms at the grassroots level.
Chief advisor Mity Jopir, in her address, congratulated the team for achieving a long-pending goal of setting up the dedicated APWWS office building at Yingkiong, describing it as a “dream come true” for all members.
District medical officer Dr Gepeng Litin, who also spoke on the occasion, urged women to nurture child-friendly homes and maintain a healthy lifestyle by rejecting drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and plastic use.
She stressed the importance of environmental responsibility and encouraged women to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
Senior woman leader Omyang Boli paid tribute to Jarjum Ete, the first Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women, acknowledging her invaluable guidance and inspiration in shaping the women’s movement in the state and in founding the Yingkiong branch of APWWS.
As a mark of recognition, several members of APWWS and the Simong team were felicitated with mementoes and certificates for their significant contributions to the society’s growth and activities.
The celebration concluded with a spirit of camaraderie, as members exchanged pleasantries and shared memories of their collective journey.
The gathering reaffirmed its resolve to continue working towards a safer, fairer, and more inclusive society for women and children in Upper Siang district and beyond.
