Assam Government Orders Major Police Reshuffle Across State

Guwahati, 18 Oct: Assam government has reshuffled more than 30 senior officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Assam Police Service (APS) across the state. The Home (A) Department issued the official notification on 17 October from Janata Bhawan, Dispur, stating that the transfers were made “in the interest of public service” with the Governor’s approval. The large-scale reshuffle aims to strengthen district policing, enhance coordination, and improve administrative efficiency at the grassroots level.

Among the key transfers, Partha Protim Das, IPS (RR-2018), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sribhumi, has been posted as SSP, Cachar, replacing Numal Mahatta, APS, who takes charge as SSP, Kokrajhar. Leena Doley, APS (DR-2002), has been shifted from Dhubri to Sribhumi, while Debasish Borah, APS (DR-2004), Commandant of the 4th Assam Police Battalion, moves to Dhubri. Other major postings include Pushpraj Singh, IPS (RR-2014), to Karbi Anglong; Subhrajyoti Bora, IPS (RR-2016), to Jorhat; and Shambhavi Mishra, IPS (RR-2019), as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Guwahati.

The government stated that the reshuffle is part of its ongoing effort to modernise policing and reinforce security across sensitive and remote districts, including Dibrugarh, Cachar, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, and Majuli. By introducing new leadership at key positions and promoting dynamic rotation, the Assam Police aims to boost field operations, strengthen the fight against organised crime, narcotics, and human trafficking, and build stronger community engagement statewide.
