Guwahati, 18 Oct: As Assam celebrated Kati Bihu on 18 October, leaders across the nation, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP national president JP Nadda, extended their heartfelt greetings to the people of the state. The festival, which marks prayers for agricultural prosperity and a good harvest, saw lamps being lit before the sacred Tulsi plant across Assamese homes.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, in his message, prayed before the holy Tulsi for the well-being of the people. “May the earthen lamp lit before the Tulsi plant illuminate the Assamese society and bring prosperity to our farmers,” he wrote on social media, expressing hopes for abundance in the fields of Assam.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his greetings, wishing “well-being and prosperity” for all the people of Assam. “May this festival bring happiness and abundance into everyone’s lives,” he said in his post. BJP president JP Nadda shared similar sentiments, hoping that Kati Bihu “fills every home with new hope, prosperity and good health.”
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reflected on the deeper meaning of the festival, describing it as a time to honour farmers and reaffirm Assam’s bond with nature. “This evening, people of Assam will light a diya in front of Maa Tulsi to pray for a bountiful harvest and everyone’s safety,” he posted.
