GUWAHATI, Oct 18: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the valedictory session of the North East Education Conclave 2025 at Pragjyotishpur University, calling it a symbol of collective commitment to shaping India’s academic future.
Organised to mark the university’s foundation, the conclave brought together educationists, policymakers and academics to discuss educational transformation in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

In his address, Governor Acharya emphasised the relevance of the conclave amid the country’s push towards a knowledge-driven, self-reliant economy. Quoting Srimanta Shankardev, he spoke of the transformative power of education and recalled India’s ancient centres of learning like Nalanda and Takshashila, while lamenting the cultural and educational decline during colonial rule.
The Governor highlighted the need for experiential, technology-driven education and praised Assam for pioneering NEP implementation by introducing field-based, project-oriented learning across universities. He noted that about 20 percent of coursework in disciplines like arts, commerce and social sciences now addresses local societal needs.
Acharya urged universities to embrace India’s intellectual heritage—including Vedas, Yoga and Ayurveda—not as a nostalgic exercise, but as a means to fuse tradition with scientific progress. He called for campuses to become hubs of innovation and social impact.
The session was attended by key dignitaries including Tripura Education Minister Kishore Barman, Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita and Pragjyotishpur University Vice Chancellor Prof Smriti Kumar Sinha, among others.
