SIVASAGAR, Oct 28: Bir Lachit Sena has demanded the unconditional release of Rantu Paniphukan, Utpal Asom and Tanmoy Chetia from police custody within 24 hours. Shringkhal Chaliha, chief organising secretary of the group, described Paniphukan’s arrest as despotic during a press conference on Monday.

Chaliha stated that a statewide agitation would be launched against the BJP government to protest its alleged fascist policies. He clarified that Bikash Asom has been temporarily suspended from primary membership until allegations against him are addressed within the organisation.

Chaliha also challenged the government to prove that the 12 youths arrested in Guwahati were members of Bir Lachit Sena, emphasising that while the organisation does not oppose lawful arrests for crimes like extortion, it will strongly oppose detentions without thorough investigation.
