Guwahati, October 29: The Gauhati High Court has asked the Assam government to explain why it has failed to act on the recommendations of the Judicial Commission investigating the 2013 Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment scam. The court questioned the state’s inaction in cancelling appointments found to be tainted by large-scale corruption and manipulation.

Notices have been served to several officers alleged to have secured posts through fraudulent means, as identified by the Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission. The list includes Assam Civil Service officers Tridip Roy, Nandita Hazarika, Jagadish Brahma, and Bikramaditya Bora, along with Assam Police Service officers Navanita Sharma, Asima Kalita, Rituraj Daloi, and Amritraj Choudhury. The court noted the government’s failure to take strict measures despite confirmed evidence of irregularities.

The case, moved through a PIL by Manas Pratim Baruah of the organisation Fight Against Injustice of APSC, renews the legal push to address one of Assam’s longest-running recruitment scandals. The High Court has also sought responses from certain protected candidates who continue to serve despite being named in both the SIT and Judicial Commission reports.
