GOSSAIGAON, Oct 30: The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRASU) has announced a state-wide stir demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Koch Rajbongshi community and the re-establishment of Kamatapur state. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Gossaigaon Press Club.

AKRASU president Dipen Roy accused both the Central and State Governments of failing to fulfill promises to the community. The organisation plans phase-wise protests across six districts—Dhubri, Nagaon, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, Udalguri and Barpeta—on 13th, 16th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, and 24th November. He warned that if ST status is not granted before the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the community would bar politicians from Koch Rajbongshi areas and withdraw cooperation.

Joint General Secretary Sunadhar Roy added that the agitation may escalate to railway blockades, highway closures and demonstrations in Dispur and New Delhi if demands are ignored. The press conference was attended by senior AKRASU leaders and former KLO Coordination Committee members, signalling a renewed push for identity, recognition and justice for the community.
