The Gateway of Guwahati, constructed at MG Road with an investment of ₹305 crore, is set to transform river transport in the Northeast. The facility includes the region’s first all-weather floating terminal, capable of berthing four catamaran vessels carrying 100 passengers each. Spread across 6,800 square metres, it features a modern terminal building, e-ticketing system, control and command centre for real-time monitoring and flexible jetty systems designed to adapt to fluctuating water levels.
The Brahmaputra Riverfront Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan, developed at Uzanbazar for ₹327 crore, redefines the riverfront experience across a 1.2 kilometre stretch from New DC Bungalow to Kachari Ghat. The urban park includes landscaped walkways, cycling tracks, open gyms, play areas and Assamese themed gateways, blending leisure, culture and environmental consciousness.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed it a historic moment for Guwahati and announced plans to extend the riverfront up to Nilachal Hills. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman praised the eco-friendly design and innovative technology used in the projects, describing them as a blend of culture and modernity. She also appreciated the state’s effort to preserve local livelihoods, noting that the traditional fish market near the site had been retained as part of inclusive development.

The twin projects are expected to boost tourism, passenger mobility and sustainable urban growth, positioning Guwahati as a model river city and a leading hub in the Northeast’s development vision.
