Nagaon, Nov 08:Describing the satras as the “pulse of Assam’s national life,” MLA Rupak Sharma today inaugurated the newly constructed toran (gateway) and bat-chora (approach pathway) at the historic Upper Dumdumia Bansi Badan and Bansi Gopal Satra, located north of Batadrava Police Station.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sharma highlighted the challenges confronting Assam’s satras and assured full governmental support for their preservation and development. “The state government has already constituted a full-fledged Satra Commission to provide legal and financial assistance to these vital institutions,” he said, emphasizing the need for sustained social and political collaboration to bring transformative change.

Despite the satra falling outside his own constituency, Shri Sharma pledged unwavering commitment to its progress. “I will make every possible effort for the development of Upper Dumdumia Bansi Badan and Bansi Gopal Satra. My support and cooperation will always remain with this revered institution,” he affirmed.
The day-long inauguration ceremony was conducted with traditional religious fervor and grandeur. The program commenced at 6 am with khol prasanga, followed by the ceremonial drawing of water by the aais (devotees), and aai nam prasanga. The dharmadhwaja (religious flag) was hoisted by Satradhikar Anupam Mahanta of Shri Shri Basudev Satra, Habiborangabari.
Tributes were paid to renowned artists, including the late Zubeen Garg, Deepak Sharma, and Ramcharan Bharali, among others.
In the afternoon, devotees participated in naam-kirtan, while the evening featured the bhaona (traditional Assamese theatrical performance) titled Kali’r Parajay (The Defeat of Kali).
The Upper Dumdumia Bansi Badan and Bansi Gopal Satra, a cornerstone of cultural and spiritual heritage in western Nagaon district, continues to uphold Assam’s rich Vaishnavite traditions.
