The National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Tezpur Government Higher Secondary Multipurpose Girls’ School witnessed a proud moment today as Brigadier Prashant Chauhan (SM), Group Commander of Tezpur Group Headquarters, felicitated NCC Associate Officer and Assamese teacher Barnali Saikia for her exceptional contribution to the corps.

The event, held during the school’s NCC induction ceremony, celebrated Saikia’s successful completion of her second training course at the Officers Training Academy in Gwalior. Known for her discipline and leadership, Saikia has twice earned the title of Best NCC Officer and has represented Assam in several national-level camps.

Brigadier Chauhan, addressing the gathering, praised Saikia for her dedication and service, calling her “a true inspiration for young cadets.” The ceremony also saw the presence of Colonel Madhab Boro, Commanding Officer of 5 Assam Battalion NCC, and GCI Madhuri Menaka, who were felicitated by the school authorities.

Adding a special touch to the event, Brigadier Chauhan planted a nahor (Mesua ferrea) sapling in memory of late singer Zubeen Garg within the school campus — a gesture that resonated deeply with students and staff alike.
