DIPHU, Nov 12: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ERDE Agro Ecosystems Pvt Ltd. to form a joint venture company — Hills Agro Development Corporation Limited.
The agreement was signed between the company representative and Principal Secretary, KAAC, Mukul Kumar Saikia, in the presence of Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, MP Amarsing Tisso, Executive Members, Members of the Autonomous Council, and officials from both sides on Tuesday.
The joint venture aims to collaborate with Farmers Producer Companies (FPCs) across the two districts to promote contract farming and ensure better market prices for key crops such as ginger, turmeric, black pepper, and bird’s eye chillies.
Processing and packaging centres for these crops will be established in both districts, adding value to local produce and empowering the farming community.
According to projections, over 10,000 farmers are expected to benefit from assured market linkages. KAAC anticipates an earning of Rs 6 crore in the first year, rising to Rs 17 crore annually within two years. Additionally, around 200 people will gain direct employment in the first year, with 1,500 or more jobs expected to be created subsequently.
Officials said the initiative marks a major step towards rural prosperity, agri-based employment generation, and economic self-reliance in the region.
